Route 7, a major transit route from the City of Alexandria west to Leesburg and beyond, is slated to undergo upgrades to help manage the expected population growth in Northern Virginia.
On Tap for Northern Virginia’s Route 7: Light Rail and Bus Rapid Transit?
With the Tysons business district predicted to match the size of downtown Seattle and Houston in the coming decades, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission’s Envision Route 7 study is assessing options for a transformation of Route 7 from Alexandria to Tysons.
Factors such as cost and ridership are under review for light rail (LRT), bus rapid transit (BRT), and improved standard bus service. Also under consideration: alignments and routes for each service, and features such as dedicated lanes, multiple entrances, and fare collection before boarding as possible options.
