If you have a property in the City of Alexandria, are you getting true value out of your TMP Fund? If you find that your TMP Fund is relatively small, or you are using it to purchase SmarTrip cards for tenants, or you are merely paying a fee to the City rather than making use of the Fund, then you should know that you have options.
The fact is that there are many ways to make use of and get value out of a TMP Fund. But first …
What Is a TMP Fund in the City of Alexandria?
A TMP Fund is part of a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) and supports initiatives that encourage people to use modes of transportation other than driving alone. The TMP Program requires developments of a certain size to maintain a fund to implement programs to promote and incentivize the use of transit, carpool, biking, walking, vanpooling or other options that reduce vehicle traffic.
These TMP Fund programs can include investment in infrastructure such as bicycle (racks, parking, fix-it stations, showers and changing rooms, etc.), pedestrian (new sidewalks and paths, pavement markings on private driveways, etc.) and transit, carshare, telework, and vanpool facilities.
TMP Funds can be used to subsidize SmarTrip cards, DASH passes, E-Z Pass Flex, Capital Bikeshare memberships, and gift cards to bicycle repair shops, and more. TMP Funds even support transportation-related marketing and events, and IT that supports the use of diversified transportation choices.
As you can see, there are many ways to get full value out of a TMP Fund.
Eligible Standalone TMP Fund Services from W+A
There are many ways to make use of eligible TMP expenditures under the City’s regulatory framework. These expenditures help “influence travel behavior by mode, frequency, time, route or trip length to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips,” as the City states under its TMP Policy.
Below is a list of eligible standalone services that our TDM team helps clients implement for properties in the City of Alexandria. Rather than merely supplying a one-time service that ensures compliance with City regulations, these services help property owners and managers create lasting value for tenants through implementing amenities that attract and retain tenants by enhancing tenants’ transportation experience.
