Last week, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the development of “The Boro”: 4.25 million square feet of apartments, offices, hotel and shops in Tysons, Virginia, adjacent to the Metro’s Silver Line Greensboro Station. The plan calls for building “dense, mixed-use, transit-oriented developments where people can live, work, shop and play.” Included in the plan:
- Three office towers of nearly 2 million square feet
- Five apartment buildings featuring about 2,000 units
- Retail space of up to 430,000 square feet, including a 70,000-square-foot Whole Foods Grocery – the largest in the region
- A hotel and movie theater
In conjunction with the mixed use focus, seven parks totaling over 4 acres will be laid out, and a 19,000-square-foot public library will be designed and built for Fairfax County by the developer, Meridian.
